It Was Wrong Of Me To Say This

I am going back on something I said recently.

The month of December is a strange time for the world of fitness.

Many fitness professionals and coaches, including myself, use this time to try and motivate you to get a jump start on your new year's resolution goals before the year runs out.

You probably have seen countless posts that say things like...

"Why wait for 2026 when you get a 1 month head start on your goals today!"

Or how about this one...

"There is no perfect time to get started, so you might as well get started today."

Admittedly, I am guilty of this too.

I have published content recently around this topic, with the hopes of trying to motivate you to get started on your 2026 goals in the final weeks of 2025.

However, after having a few enlightening conversations with some individuals this week, I realize that everyone's timeline is different.

It is wrong of me to assume that everyone who wants to get back in the gym after years away can just drop everything and walk through the gym doors effortlessly.

It is wrong of me to think that you can just wake up and say to yourself that "today is the day for me to get back in shape."

It does not work that way for many people.

There are many things to take in consideration when you are trying to rebuild your fitness, health and lifestyle.

You have to plan around work and family schedules, traffic times, and figure out a routine at home that will accommdate your new workout schedule.

After having this ah-ha moment, I know now that timing is everything for people.

Restarting in the gym might be a big deal for you not just physically, but mentally as well.

In order to step through the gym doors, you may have had to overcome gym anxiety, self doubt, low confidence, feeling guilty about not starting sooner, and feeling as if you are so far behind everyone else.

If you are able to overcome those thoughts and you have decided that 2026 is your year to get back to feeling great and stronger, then that is huge sign of dedication and you should be proud of that.

There may never be a perfect time to start a new goal, but there are certainly times that are better than others.

These last 4 weeks may not be the best time for you to commit just yet because holiday's might be a stressful time for you.

There is travel, cooking, cleaning, gift shopping, end of year deadlines and holiday parties for work.

If you need to get past these last few weeks of the year in order to have a clearer head, more time for these goals, and be able to put your best foot forward, then take them.

The goals that you have in mind for 2026 are your goals and no one else's.

You have the power to not just decide what you want to achieve, but when you wish to start and what you need to do in order to increase your chances of reaching them.

If you ask me, it does not matter when you start; it just matters that you start.

All the best,

Tim Stiroh
