The backstory is one of the most important parts of any book, movie, and tv show.
Even though you and I may not be playing a role on the big screen, our lives are a story that those around us get to watch and be a part of.
As a business owner and entrepreneur, the backstory showcases values and tells how and why someone, like myself, decided to start the business they are building an growing.
Below is my backstory.
The reason why I get started in the fitness industry and the most important lesson I learned along the way.
Â
Many people assume that I started a career as personal trainer because I just love to workout. While I do love it, there is more to the story.
Â
My love for fitness and training grew as I was playing sports growing up.
Â
I was always playing something.
Â
Most of the time it was a pick up game of basketball, football, street hockey, or wiffle ball after school.
Â
It was not until I started playing football in high school that I realized the true benefits of not just strength training.
Â
I was not the biggest, strongest, or fastest kid out on the football field.
Â
But, each year I got a littler bigger, a little stronger, and a little faster on the field because of the weight room.
Â
In the early days, strength training showed me how "hard work and determination can get you somewhere."
Â
That was a saying that my freshman football coach, Coach Girvan told us one day after practice.
Â
I still remember us all on one knee after that practice, as he stood up front and center and looked us all in the eyes, and told us how important hard work and determination are for achieving any goal.
Â
I did not know it then, but that quote would end up being one of the most impactful and important quotes I have ever heard.
Â
As I got older, I began to realize how strength training gave me more and more confidence.
Â
There is something special about knowing that you can push yourself though a challenging workout and come out okay on the other end.
Â
Strong bodies, create strong minds, and strong minds create strong and capable people.
Â
Strong is whatever you want it to be. There is no one definition of strong.
Â
It is all about what strong means to you.
Â
For me, at this stage in my life strong does not mean a specific number on the bar.
Â
I am 30 now, and looking back I can honestly say I was not very confident in my 20's.
Â
With that said, strong to me means being a able to confidently walk into a gym, knowing that I can do something that will challenge me, put me outside my comfort zone, and have the certainty that I will get through it, and be better because of it.
Â
I know many coaches and trainers that get into this industry because they lost weight or had a major body transformation of some kind.
Â
I don't have a major personal weight loss story.
Â
However, I do know what it is like to not believe in yourself.
Â
Hell, I still struggle with that from time to time.
Â
But, I do know that nothing will change for me if I don' keep trying to get better at it everyday.
Â
The same goes for you or anyone out there. Nothing changes, if nothing changes.
Â
Nowadays, I make my goal to help people believe in themselves by helping them reach their health and fitness goals.
Â
Over my 5 year career, I have seen people do things they never thought they could do.
Â
Form new weights being lifted, to fitting in old clothes, all the way to seeing from seeing the definition of their shoulder muscles when they take a group picture with their friends.
Â
If you are like me and struggle with confidence, the biggest wins you can have on your own personal fitness or health journey, are the ones that help you realize that you can do this.
