3 Things I Stand Against In The World of Health and Fitness

Today, I am going to share with you the top 3 things that I am stubbornly against in the world of health and fitness.

If you are new to trying to get improve your current health, fitness, and nutrition pay close attention; because these 3 things will save you a lot of time, frustration, and will make your health and fitness journey get off to a great start.

Number 1: obsessive thinking about fitness, nutrition, and health

Obsessive thinking about anything can lead you down a dangerous road, even if you are obsessively thinking about getting and staying healthy.

Too much obsession about what workouts to do, what foods to eat, what supplements to take, and what your recovery should look like will eventually end up leading you into anall-or-nothing way of thinking.

All-or-nothing thinking is when you see things as only as extremes.

Everything is either a success or a failure.

It is either good or bad.

In this problematic mindset, things like middle-ground or good enough are non-existent.

This way of thinking is problematic becuase if something is not perfect, then chances are those follow an all or nothing approach will assume it is not worth doing.

And this conscious decision not to do something becuase it is not 100% perfect is only making it harder for you to make progress.

Because to make long term progress that lasts, you must be flexible and adapt to stay as consistent as you can no matter what life throws at you.

Number 2: looking for quick fixes as opposed to life long transformations

In today's world people want things to be faster than ever.

So many people are on the hunt to find the quickest way to drop those 20 lbs. and finally tone up their muscles.

However, our bodies are not like Amazon's same day delivery services.

Those 30-day detoxes, extreme fat loss protocols, and6-week shred programs are not built for long term results or life long sustainability.

There are countless stories of people who fell victim to these advertising and marketing campaigns, bought the detox, dropped the weight, but felt a combination of the following after.

They felt tired, fatigued, and lethergic all the time.

They lost strength and muscle definition.

They felt like all they could think about was eating a cheeseburger again.

The problem with these types of tactics is they never show you how to build skills, habits, and routines to make healthy changes stick for life.

That is why so many people who do these trendy plans and programs end up gaining back all the weight they lost; and in some cases, they gain back more than they lost.

I'd rather see someone build the habits, behaviors, and a resilient mindset so that the healthy changes and results they get last forever, not just for 6 weeks.

Number 3: not trying to understand the real problems clients face

As someone who has been a trainer and coach for the last 7 and half years, I have heard a lot of reasons why people aren't sticking to their exercise or nutrition programs.

Many coaches may call their clients out and say things like...

"You are just not motivated enough."

Or, "you don't really care about reaching these goals do you?"

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some trainers actually fire clients like this because they are not following their plan.

If you ask me, these are not real coaches.

These are people who just bark orders at their clients and don't care to find out the real reasons why their clients are struggling with their programs.

This only makes their clients feel worse about themselves and may eventually ruin their long term relationship with healthy exercise and nutrition.

If someone is not following through on what they need to do, chances are some deeper questions need to be asked.

When the right questions are asked, it will help determine what the real problem is, and help to collaboratively come up with a solution.

That is what real coaching is.

Questions like...

"What has been making it difficult for you adhere to the plan?"

"Would you say that you have been under a lot of stress lately, and is that making it harder to prioritize your health goals?"

Or, "on a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being extremely confident, how confident are you in your ability to stick to this plan, and what would have to change to increase your confidence in your ability to stick to the plan?"
